Anyone who has skipped a shampoo knows that hair quickly absorbs oil.
That’s why area salons and pet grooming businesses are collecting it to help clean up the massive oil spill along the Gulf Coast.
Animal House in Kronenwetter is saving furry scraps leftover after a good brushing or trim.
They’ll be sent to Matter of Trust, an environmental organization, which will stuff the hair into nylons to make oil-absorbing booms.
“Because the environment is being threatened so heavily by the oil spill down on the gulf coast, I think it’s important to do anything I can to help,” said owner Mary VanErt.
She says they’ll continue as long as the fur is needed.
Fantastic Sams is also saving hair.
An assistant manager at the Weston location says customers are surprised to hear where their hair is going…but are happy to contribute.
