Dreadlocks for Dingoes, a Minneapolis-based pet groomer, is donating all of the hair and fur that it cuts to help clean up the oil spill in the Gulf.
The donated hair will be sent to Matter of Trust, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization that will manufacture the hair into mats and “booms,” nylons stuffed with hair which resemble a giant dreadlock.
The booms and mats will then be used to soak up and block the expansion of oil. Hair has the ability to absorb oil very quickly and efficiently, according to Dreadlocks for Dingoes owner, Lisa Rojas.
“Pet hair is a valuable reusable natural resource that will not be discarded. You can contribute in a huge way,” said Rojas in a press release.
