Our Commitment to Privacy

Matter of Trust, Inc., (“MofT”, ”we”, or “our”) a nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity is the parent organization for the Matter of Trust Family of programs, platforms, projects and fiscal sponsorships (The MofT Family) providing a suite of services including, but not limited to (The Hair Matters Program, MofT Eco-Industrial Hub (Eco-Hub), MofT Eco-Model Home & Edible Garden (Eco-Home), TheHumSumGlobalCompostProject, ExcessAccessSonoma Food Runners, and Heart of the City Farmers’ Market).

At Matter of Trust, Inc., we respect everyone’s right to privacy. This section summarizes what personally identifiable information we may collect, if any, and how we might use this information. This policy also describes other important topics relating to your privacy.  Matter of Trust, Inc., reserves the right to modify this privacy policy at any time. We will promptly reflect any such modifications in these Web pages. We take extra precautions for children under the age of 13. For more details, please read the section under Children’s Privacy and Safety.

Children’s Privacy and Safety

Matter of Trust, Inc., is committed to children’s privacy. We take safety issues very seriously, especially with children, and we encourage parents to teach their children about safe internet practices.

Matter of Trust, Inc., conducts summer camps and free educational field trips to Bay Area schools, day care centers, youth-based organizations, and homeschoolers. We do not knowingly permit child users to register directly with our service without the consent of the parent or school. If Matter of Trust, Inc., field trips and activities are used by a school, we rely on the school to provide the requisite consent for Matter of Trust, Inc., to collect personal information of the child for this purpose, in lieu of parental consent. Matter of Trust, Inc., also seeks permission on the field trip form photo release for photography during field trips which may be used on the website and on print media.

If Matter of Trust, Inc., learns that personal information of a child is collected at our service without a parent’s consent, we will take appropriate steps to delete the information from our system. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child under the age of 13 has a registered account with Matter of Trust, Inc., without your consent, please write to us at mailto:team@matteroftrust.org and we will delete the information from our systems.

Information Collection

In general, when you visit most Matter of Trust, Inc., websites and access information, you remain anonymous. We do not require you to register or provide personal information to us in order to view our site. However, some services may require that you provide us with personal data.

In these cases, we will only collect personally identifiable information, such as name, address, telephone number, email address, website address, location, zip code, comments, country, and phone number which you voluntarily provide through our website or via email correspondence. We collect this information when you:

  • Register for using charitable services on MatterofTrust.org, TheHumSum.org, Global Compost Project, and other programs.
  • Post gifts, wishes, events, eco-commitments, surveys, comments, questions, answers, etc on TheHumSum.org.
  • Post personal information including photos from Contracts and participation in Surveys.
  • Contact us for information or ask a question.
  • Apply for jobs, volunteering, internship, or apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Contribute to charity funds or for sponsorship opportunities.

All of this information is stored securely in the Matter of Trust systems. We do not sell, share or exchange your personal information. We will collect general information, such as the type of browser you use, IP address, the files you request, and the domain name and country from which you request information, to improve our website and better meet your needs. We hold user data for a minimum of 1 year. We use GPS to get the data of your location. This is crucial for the effective working of our service.

On TheHumSum.org website, when visitors leave a comment on the website,  we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/ and after approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

We use Paypal, Square, and Stripe for donation, gift-shop, and for enrollment payment processing at Matter of Trust, Inc.

Analytics

We may use third-party service providers to monitor and analyze the use of our service. Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google may use this collected data to personalize advertisements on its network.

Data Security

We store all of your data in a database to protect the information we collect online. We also use cookies as identifiers and HTML5 local storage for our services. Please read this section on Cookies if you would like to know how we use Cookies. However, as much as these systems are secure, no system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the security of the database, nor can we assure that the information you supply will not be intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet. Matter of Trust, Inc., does not automatically transmit any information over the Internet. 

Use of Information

Before we collect any personally identifiable information, we will provide an explanation for the possible use of your data.

  • The information you supply might be used by MofT Family Sites and Services, including TheHumSum.org and Matter of Trust, Inc., to respond to your inquiries or supply you with the requested information.
  • Email is collected from the user while registering into the Service and we use this data to send out confirmation on successful registration.
  • This is also used for secure messaging to communicate between users. For this purpose, we use Service providers like MailChimp and Mandrill and they will have access to your information as reasonably necessary to perform these tasks on our behalf.

    By consenting, you agree to use this service for effective communication. It may be necessary, if required by law or if pertinent to judicial or governmental investigations, to release your personally identifiable information. If you have submitted personal information to us electronically and would like it removed or modified, please contact us. We will use every possible effort, within reason, to comply with your request.

Media

If you upload images to MofT Family Sites and Services, including TheHumSum.org website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Retention of Data

Your personal data is retained no longer than is necessary to do the needful processing required for our programs. We hold data for a minimum of 1 year. If the user no longer requires our service, we provide a way to delete/deactivate the account.

Your Rights

Subject to exemptions under applicable law, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:

  • To request a copy of your personal data which The MofT Family programs hold.
  • To rectify personal data that is inaccurate or out of date.
  • To request erasure of data from The MofT Family programs where it is no longer necessary. 

Intellectual property

The MofT Family programs take Intellectual property rights seriously and believe they are important to promoting expression, innovation, and creativity. You own all of the content that you post on The MofT Family programs. However, before posting content please be sure that you have the right to do so. We ask that you be aware and respect other people’s trademarks, copyrights, and legal rights.

The MofT Family programs’ Terms of Service do not allow other people to post content that violates someone else’s intellectual rights, including copyright and trademark.

While The MofT Family programs are highly selective about which sites we provide links to, we do not control these websites, nor do we endorse or otherwise accept responsibility for the content or privacy policies of those sites. We do encourage you to review the privacy policies posted on third-party sites.
