Matter Of Trust is providing a safe, non-toxic, and effective way to participate in the Gulf Spill clean up. Donors from every state in the US, from Canada and beyond are sending in hair, fur and wool clippings as well as nylons and funding for the outer mesh. These fibers and tubing are used to make Booms that can protect beaches and coastal waters.
Boom B Q's (boom making Bar B Q parties) are cropping up all over the Gulf and now in other states as well. The booms will be stored in donated, temporary warehouse spaces all along the Gulf Coast. The local residents are joined by donors from all over, to provide unprecidented support, massive supplies of materials and volunteer hours for the boom making!
Matter of Trust does not condone untrained residents touching the oil! Leave that to the protected HazMat professionals. What we are all orchestrating is an INTERNATIONAL NATURAL FIBER RECYLING MOBILIZATION. Hair and Fur is as effective as petroleum fiber based boom materials and they are renewable. No point in using oil based products to clean up an oil spill when we are throwing away hundreds of thousands of pounds of natural, renewable absorbant fiber each day that can easily be recycled and used for this purpose.
We already see green job opportunities developing for collections with the sorted fiber coming in. Ideally we could restimulate the textile felting industries in the US, so that we can easily make hair mats here as well. We welcome all emails and suggestions.
